A'ali

A'ali

There are about 85,000 burial mounds and tombs in Bahrain, but the Royal Tombs in the town of A'ali ('Ali) are the largest and most impressive. Despite its name, no kings have ever been buried there, but the tombs are king-size: up to 15 m (50 feet) high and 45 m (150 feet) in diameter. The tombs have been inscribed in the UNESCO world heritage list.

In A'ali you'll also find Bahrain's most famous pottery workshop, where excellent pieces can be purchased.

There is some accommodation in A'ali, but most people prefer to stay in al-Manama and visit A'ali on a day trip. A'ali is about 10 km southwest of Manama and buses ply the route between the two.
