Abaco Island is the largest of the Abacos Islands. It consists of Great Abaco, the southern part of the island and Little Abaco, which is the northern extension. The largest town in the Abacos is Marsh Harbour, where the largest part of the islands' population is concentrated. Many people live on one of the four Loyalist Cays as well. The Loyalist Cays got their name from their earliest settlers, who were Loyalists that fled from America after the Revolution.
Most of Abaco Island is covered with scrub and pine forest, which makes is excellent for hiking. The island boasts a varied bird life and their are some great beaches.
Accommodation is available on Abaco Island, especially around the resort area of Treasure Cay.
