The Akamas Peninsula is an unspoilt area of lush vegetation and rocks in the northwest of Cyprus. It is excellent for hiking and you'll find some of the island's most rare animal and plant species there. Most people visit the peninsula for the Baths of Aphrodite, where Aphrodite used to purify herself regularly according to the legend.
On the northern side of Akamas are the Androlykou gorge and the Petratis gorge. They are near the village of Androlykou. The Avakas gorge is in the southwest of the peninsula. Its cliffs rise straight up and a some point touch each other to form a tunnel.
There is not much accommodation in the Akamas Peninsula, as it is not very developed. The best places to stay are probably the towns of Polis in the northeast, or the town of Pegeia in the south.
