Al-Kut (لْكُوت)

Al-Kut (لْكُوت)

Al-Kut is also known as Kūt. It is in the southeast of Iraq, inside a sharp bend in the Tigris River. Al-Kut has always been a carpet-trading center. It is a port and a market center for grains, dates, fruit and vegetables. Much of the town was destroyed during World War I, but it has been completely restored. It is also called Kut-al-Amara, Kut-el-Amara, or Kutulamare.

Accommodation is available in town. Al Kut is 160 km southeast of Baghdad.
