Alofi Island

Alofi Island

The small island of Alofi is home to some 10,000 pigs. The lack of adequate fresh water has prevented permanent human habitation, but plenty of locals from Futuna spend the day at Alofi looking after their pigs and tending their gardens. Alofi boasts the best beach in Wallis and Futuna. It has white sand, clear water and is backed by shady trees.

There is a small church on the island and you can spend the night there in one of the open fale with solar-powered lighting. You can get to Alofi Island by boat from Futuna. The trip takes only 15 minutes. Alofi Island is 240 km southwest of Mata Utu. Its highest point is Kolofau.
