Amber Coast

Amber Coast

The Amber Coast is a coastal strip northwest from Kaliningrad. It got its name from the so-called Baltic amber that has been excavated there ever since the 19th century. The excavation takes place in open-pit mining.

Two large deposits of amber were found near Yantarny on the Western coast of the Sambia Peninsula in the 1940's. They are called Palmnikenskoe and Primorskoe.
