The state of Andhra Pradesh covers 277,000 km² of the Deccan plateau and consists of one of India's poorest and least developed areas. There are numerous interesting sights in Andhra Pradesh. The state's capital is Amaravati and its largest city is Visakhapatnam.

Archaeological evidence suggests that people have been living in Andhra Pradesh for some 250,000 years. The state is divided into coastal plains and peneplains, which are divided by the mountain range of the Eastern Ghats.

Andhra Pradesh is a major rice producer. There are also large deposits of limestone, baryte and granite. India's main satellite launching station is located at the island of Sriharikota.

The most popular Hindu temple in the world is the Tirumala Venkateswara temple, not far from the city of Tirupati. There are numeroud other temples and pilgrimage locations in Andhra Pradesh.

The state has good air, rail and road connections with numerous destinations throughout India.
