Annaba

Annaba

Annaba is Algeria's fourth largest city. It is mainly industrial, but there are several interesting places to explore. Amongst travellers it is known for its scenic beaches, good hotels and a bustling nightlife.

The Basilica of St. Augustine lies on the hill to the south of the city. It is not very special, but the views over Annaba are excellent.

The ruins of the Roman town of Hippo Regius can be found at the foot of the hill. There is not much left, but it an interesting place nevertheless. The main street of Concours de la Revolution is lined with shops and cafés.

Annaba is surrounded by mountains that are perfect for hiking and rock climbing. Some of the best beaches are West Bay, Djenane el Bey (La Grande Plage), Ras el Hamra and Ain Achir beach.

Annaba is a so-called 'visa-free zone', so trips to nearby Tunisia and the El Kala National Park are easily made.

Accommodation and restaurants are widely available in Annaba.

Annaba has daily bus and train connections with Tunisia. The railway station is located on Place 1er Mai and the bus station is not too far from the center on Ave. de l'Armée de Libération Nationale.
