Badajoz
Badajoz lies on the Portuguese border in the southwest of Spain. It is the capital of Lower Extremadura ad it is just a nice place to stroll around in. Its major attractions are its Moorish Alcazaba, the town-walls and watch-towers.
There are several hotels and campsites in and around Badajoz, as well as numerous bars and restaurants. The city has rail and road connections with most other Spanish cities and Portugal. Badajoz is 330 km southwest of Madrid.
