Bassin Blue (Basenblé)

The Bassin Blue consist of 4 cobalt-blue pools along the Petite Rivière de Jacmel that are connected by spectacular cascades. The falls' distinctive color is caused by minerals that are dissolved in the water. The pools are

According to legend, the grottos around the falls are inhabited by water nymphs who sunbathe on a rock in Palm Lake, but of course you can never see them, as they disappear at the sound of footsteps...

The trip to the Bassin Blue, 12 km (7.5 mi) from Jacmel, is usually done on horseback.

Because of widespread anarchy it is not recommended to travel to Bassin Blue (Basenblé), or any other destination in Haiti at this moment.
