Birmingham (Michigan)
Birmingham was settled in 1819. It was incorporated as a village in 1864 and became a city in 1933. It is largely residential.
Points of interest
- Birmingham's Community House opened in 1923. The venue is used for celebrations such as meetings, banquets and weddings, amongst others. It is located in the center of town.
- The First United Methodist Church was built in 1839.
- The Village Players of Birmingham is a volunteer theater group that was founded in 1923. They perform 5 times per year.
- There are numerous parks in Birmingham. The main park is Shain Park, where the Village Fair is held. It is also the location for summer concerts and community events. At its center is the Freedom of the Human Spirit sculpture.
Birmingham is on the Rouge River in southeastern Michigan, 115 km southeast from Lansing and 640 km northwest from Washington D.C.
