Birni-N'Konni
Birni-N'Konni, or Birnin-Konni, is usually referred to as Konni, or Bkonni. It sits on the border with Nigeria, 340 km east of Niamey.
There is little of interest to travellers, but it's a good place to stop over before heading into Nigeria. There are several hotels and a campsite in Birni-N'Konni. Food can be bought from the food stalls along the main street and around the gare routière.
The town used to be the capital of the pre-colonial Hausa state of Konni.
The surrounding area consists of agricultural land. The town of Madaoua, 90 km eastwards, however, is a much better alternative to stay, if you want to spend a few days in the area. Illela is 18 km to the south.
