Boquete
Boquete is a small alpine town, settled in a mountain valley north of David. Petroglyphs (rock carvings) from the area show that the first people lived there somewhere between 600 BC and 300 AD.
The town's surroundings are perfect for walking, bird watching and horse riding and because of its altitude, Boquete has a pleasant climate that is a welcome escape from the heat of the lowlands.
In the countryside around Boquete, flowers, coffee and citrus fruits are grown. Every year in January, the popular Feria de las Flores y del Cafe is held in Boquete.
Some 15 km (9 mi) west of town is the 3,475 m (11,400 ft) high Volcán Barú, which can be climbed. Not far from the volcano is the 14,300-hectare (35,320-acre) Parque Nacional La Amistad (La Amistad National Park), which is also worth a visit. Boquete is located in the province of Chiriquí 375 km west of Panama City. The town sits on the Río Caldera (Caldera River).
