Brecon Beacons National Park



Despite the small size of this park, it only measures 24 km (15 miles) from north to south and 72 km (45 miles) from west to east; it comprises a wide variety of landscapes. There are mountain ranges, lush valleys and huge escarpments. Many of the valleys are filled with hundreds of sheep.

The park is excellent for hiking and there are several trails set out through it. The Offa's Dyke Path, which runs through the Black Mountains and the Taff Trail are the most popular walks. Along the trails you will be able to see numerous ruins, such as Llanthony Priory, the Honddu River and the church of Patrishow. The park's highest peak is at Waun Fach.

There are several interesting towns within the park borders. Brecon is a historic market town, while Abergavenny claims to be the 'Gateway to Wales'. Another nice place is Hay-on-Wye.
