Burlington (Massachusetts)
Burlington was settled in 1641 and is now a residential suburb of Boston. Its pre-Revolutionary meetinghouse was remodeled and can be visited. Electronic components, precision instruments and computer and communications software are manufactured in Burlington.
Some interesting sites in Burlington include:
- Burlington Town Common is in the center of town. It includes multiple parks, the most important of which is Simonds Park. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, gymnasia, a skate park and the indoor skating rink of Burlington Ice Palace.
- Burlington Public Library is adjacent to the Town Common.
- Burlington Sculpture Park sits between the police station and the Grandview Tavern, across from the Common. There is a collection of sculptures, as well as a picnic area.
- Burlington Historical Museum opens during the summer only.
- Meeting House of the Second Parish in Woburn.
- Francis Wyman House is a historic house that wasbuilt around 1730.
- Mill Pond Conservation Area is in the east of Burlington. It's an excellent area for hiking and cycling.
- Inside the Mill Pond Conservation Area is the Mill Pond. Fishing is allowed there after obtaining a permit. There is a small island in the pond with a popular rope swing.
- In the west of town is Mary Cummings Park. It was created in 1927, but fell into neglect later.
- Burlington Landlocked Forest is an area of meadows and old-growth forest. It is a good place for hiking and maountain-biking. It has an abundant wildlife and there are vernal pools, historic stone walls and other old structures.
Accommodation is available in town and there are several restaurants as well. Burlington is in the east of Massachusetts, 20 km northwest from downtown Boston and 610 km northeast from Washington D.C.
