Caacupé
Caacupé is Paraguay's most important religious center and every year thousands of pilgrims visit the site of the Virgin of Caacupé. The city was founded in 1770, although an earlier settlement had existed there for over a hundred years already.
The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Miracles is right in the center of town. Every year on 8 December a festival is held there to honour the 16th-century stauette of 'Our Lady of Miracles'. According to legend, several miracles took place there.
Caacupé is a good place to stay if you want to visit the Ypacaraí National Park, 15 km to the northwest.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Caacupé. The city is 55 km east of Asunción.
