Cabarete

Cabarete is a beach resort on the Amber Coast in the north of the Dominican Republic. The town lies on a huge bay, which is considered to be one of the best places in the world for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The windsurfing possibilities attract top surfers from all over the world. If you want to give it a try, there is no problem, as boards are rented at many places around the bay and windsurfing schools are widely available.

Around the bay are plenty of fantastic, white-sand beaches. Kite Beach is about 2.5 km west of Cabarete Bay and nearby Playa Encuentro has a consistent surf, which makes it excellent for surfing.

The ocean views from Cabarete are spectacular. Not far off the coast are some beautiful coral reefs that are excellent for scuba diving.

The main tourist area of Cabarete sits along the Camino Cinco and encompasses mountains, lagoons and white-sand beaches. Not far from town is Monumento Natural Lagunas Cabarete y Goleta. It is a protected area that includes many bays, caves, mangroves and tropical forest. It has an abundant variety of wildlife.

There is a wide variety of accommodation available in Cabarete, but most of it is not of the cheapest kind. There are also numerous shops, gift shops, bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
