Cacheu
Cacheu is the place where the Portuguese won battles from the armies under command of Sir Francis Drake and Sir John Hawkins in 1567. The town is very small and there is not much accommodation available. There are only a few restaurants in town. Cacheu sits on the Cacheu River and it has a ferry connection with places on the other side of the river and Senegal.
The roads in the town are paved with oil palm kernels. There is a 16th century Portuguese fort that was used in the slave trade. There is a lively market that is a good place to get fresh fruits. The Cacheu River Mangroves Natural Park is not far from town. Cacheu is 76 km northwest of Bissau.
