Ceuta

Ceuta is an enclave in Morocco and the town is known as Sebta in Arabic. The town is the supply and service center for the military base, but it is also a duty-free port. If you want to avoid the touts in Tangier, it is a good idea to enter Morocco via Ceuta.
There is a small Archaeological Museum at the end of Avenida de España, but it is of little interest. The Museo de la Legión has a display of weaponry and the special army unit, created in the 1920's, that it was named after. It is on the seafront, on Paseo de Colón. Saint Anthony's Day is celebrated by a festival each year on 13 June, at the convent of Ermita de San Antonio. The convent was originally built in the 17th century and reconstructed in the 1960's. It sits on the northern side of Monte Acho, which has a fort at its top. The views over the mediterranean are excellent and on clear days, Gibraltar on the other side, is visible.
There are several hotels and guesthouses in Ceuta. There are also numerous bars and restaurants. Ferries connect Ceuta with the Spanish mainland. The town is 530 km south of Madrid on a small peninsula in the Mediterranean, on the African continent.
