Dahab (دهب)

Dahab means 'gold'. Most people visit the town for the perfect snorkeling and scuba diving possibilities that the Gulf of Aqaba offers, but other than that there is not much to see. It is a very relaxed place about 60 km north of Sharm el Sheikh on the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. Dahab actuaölly consists of three parts; the Bedouin village of Asalah is in the north and is good for scuba-diving; Mashraba is to the south and is more touristic with many hotels and Medina, which is to the southwest and includes the Laguna area. Mashraba is known for its surfing and kite-surfing possibilities.

Ras Abu Gallum is excellent for scuba-diving. The remains of a Crusader fort can be seen in the Kanoun region of Asalah.

Accommodation is very cheap and mostly situated near the beach. There is also a campsite. Restaurants are cheap as well and the city can be reached by bus. There are daily connections with Sharm el Sheikh, Cairo and Suez.
