Dayton (Tennessee)
Dayton was founded in 1820 as Smith's Crossroads. It was renamed after Dayton in Ohio in 1877.
In 1925, Dayton was the location of the Scopes Trial. The trial was a case against high school teacher John T. Scopes, who was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act, which had made it illegal to teach human evolution in state-funded schools.
Dayton is located in the southwest of Tennessee, 190 km southeast of Nashville.
