Djémila (Cuicul)

Djémila (Cuicul)

Djémila is the location of the ruined Roman city of Cuicul. The place has a dramatic mountain setting. Many buildings in Cuicul are unbelievably well preserved.

Immediately after entering the site of the Roman city there is a museum showing artifacts found on the site. The ruins themselves consist of many different buildings, including a baptistery, baths, the new forum, the Temple Septimien, or the old forum, a market and a theatre. People will offer to guide you through the ruins as soon as you enter the site.

The best way to visit the town is on a daytrip from Sétif, 40 km to the southwest. Take the public transport to El Ouelma and take a taxi from there. Accommodation is available in Djémila as well. Djémila was inscribed in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites in 1982.
