Evandale (Tasmania)
The historic town of Evandale, not far from Launceston in the north of Tasmania has been classified by Australia's National Trust. It was named after George Evans, who was a colonial explorer/surveyor. There are numerous historic Georgian and Victorian buildings in Evandale, as well as nice churches and beautiful parks. On Sunday's a bustling market is held in town. Once a year, a race with high-wheel bicycles, known as the Penny Farthing Bicycle Championships are organized.
Evandale is on the South Esk River, 170 km north of Hobart and about 700 km south of Canberra.
