Faisalabad (ملتان)


Faisalabad was founded as Lyallpur by the British in 1892. It was named after British administrator James Broadwood Lyall. In 1979, it was renamed Fasailabad. The city has seen rapid growth ever since its inception and nowadays it's the 3rd-largest city in Pakistan.

Points of interest
  • The Agriculture University features a distinctive gate.
  • The Chenab Club dates from 1904, making it the oldest social club in Faisalabad.
  • The Faisalabad Clock Tower (فیصل آباد کلاک ٹاور) was formerly known as the Lyallpur Clock Tower. It was erected in 1905, making it one of the oldest monuments in Faisalabad that still remains in its original form.
  • The historic Faisalabad Railway Station (فيصل آباد ریلوے اسٹیشن) opened in 1896.
  • Faisal's MosqueFaisal's Mosque features a distinctive modern architecture.
  • Lyallpur Galleria.
  • Lyallpur Gurdwara is a Sikh Gurdwara (a place of assembly and worship) that was constructed in 1911, during the reign of the British Empire.
  • The Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium.
Museums
  • Lyallpur Museum is dedicated to preserve the history and culture of Faisalabad. The museum opened in 2011.
Bazaars
There are 8 bazaars in Faisalabad, each of which has its own name and a specific selection of items for sale.
  • Aminpur Bazaar is the place for stationery and interior décor.
  • At Bhawana Bazaar electrical and electronic goods are sold.
  • Chiniot Bazaar is known for allopathic and homoeopathic medicinal stores, cloth, blankets, sofa cloth and curtains. There is also an area with poultry feed wholesale shops.
  • For dried fruits you should visit Gol Bazaar. It is also the location to buy wholesale soap and oil. There are also several ghee shops.
  • You should go to Jhang Bazaar for fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruits.
  • The Katchery Bazaar was named for the court (Katchery). Mobile phones and accessories are sold there.
  • Herbal medicines can be purchased at the Kharkhana Bazaar.
  • Rail Bazaar is a gold and cloth market.
  • Montgomery Bazaar is also known as Sutar Mandi. It is known for yarn and raw cloth trading.
Parks
  • D-Ground Park features models of Pakistani monuments. The park is located in the Peoples Colony #1 area, within the D-Ground shopping area.
  • Dhobi Ghat Park is frequently used for rallies and protests. It is located on Kotwali Road in the oldest part of the city, adjacent to the Government College University.
  • Gatwala Park is a family park that features a zoo and a lake. The park is located in the northeastern outskirts of Faisalabad.
  • The Gatwala Wildlife Park is a botanical natural reserve adjacent to Gatwala Park. It measures 100 km² (39 sq mi), making it the city's largest park. It includes forest areas and lakes, as well as administrative buildings of the Ministry of Forestry and the Government of Pakistan. Gatwala Wildlife Park is located along the road between Shiekhupura and Lahore.
  • Jinnah Gardens is the city's oldest public park and very popular with locals. It is colloquially known as Company Bagh. A monument of Sir James Broadwood Lyall is located in the eastern section of the park.
  • Pahari Grounds is surrounded by a residential area that includes Babar Chowk, Fawara Chowk and several old gates. A retired Pakistan Air Force F-86 Sabre airplane is on display on a hilltop in the park. Pahari Grounds is located in Peoples Colony #2.
There are numerous mosques in Faisalabad. There are numerous hotels and restaurants in the city. Faisalabad is located in the Rachna Doab of the central Punjab, 250 km south of Islamabad.
