Farafra Oasis (واحة الفرافرة)
The Farafra Oasis (واحة الفرافرة) is one of the smaller oases in the Western Desert. Together with many other small oases it sits in a large depression.
In a garden in the main town of Qasr al Farafra is a Roman Well where water bubbles up from a spring. Around town there are some hot springs as well. Most buildings were constructed in a traditional way, made of mud in a straighforward, unadorned style.
Bir Sitta (well six) is a spring 6 km northwest of town, where you can swim. Be careful that the spring water doesn't touch your clothes as it contains a lot of iron and will make your clothes look rusty. Other places of interest include El-Mufid lake and numerous scenic rock formations.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Farafra.
