Faranah (ߝߙߊߣߊ߫߫)

Faranah benefited hugely from the fact that former Guinean president Sekou Touré was from the area. There are wide boulevards and huge office buildings. Touré also built a conference center in town, as well as a huge mosque. His private village is nowadays a hotel. A colorful market is held in Faranah on Mondays.

There are many hotels in town as well as restaurants. In the evenings there are many small bars and food stalls.

Faranah is close to Haut Niger National Park and 330 km east of Conakry. It is served by bus from the capital. It is a good place to stay if you want to find transportation to Foroknia, 150 km away, where you can visit the source of the Niger River.
