Fouta Djallon (فوتا جالون)
The Fouta Djallon is a plateau in the north of Guinea. The area is home to the Fula people and it consists of green hills of rolling grasslands, as well as mountains up to 1,500 meters. The region's highest point is Mount Loura, which is 1,515 m (4,970 ft) high. Because of its altitude the Fouta Djallon has a refreshing climate. The area is one of the best places for hiking in Western Africa.
There are numerous interesting towns in the area of which Dalaba, Labé, Mali (Mali-ville), Mamou and Pita are the best.
The Fouta Djallon starts at Mamou, 200 km northeast of Conakry. You can get to the area by bus or bush-taxi.
