Fua Mulaku Havitta

Fua Mulaku Havitta

Fua Mulaku Havitta was formerly known as Dhadimagi Havitta. It is the ruin of a Buddhist chaitya with its main feature of a ruined stupa. The Havitta sits at the northeastern end of Fuvahmulah Island. After the acceptance of Islam in the early 1200's, the Havitta was buried under a mound of sand and one of the nearby temples was converted into a mosque called 'Gemmiskiy'.

In 1922, when explorer H.C.P. Bell first saw the ruin, it measured 12 m (40 ft) in height. By 1982, the Havitta had been damaged extensively by people digging for valuables.
