Fuzhou
Fuzhou is the ugly, polluted, industrial capital of China's
Fujian province. It offers several places of interest.
- Sanfang Qixiang (三坊七巷), meaning 'Three Lanes Seven Alleys' consists of a predestrian zone, lined with ancient residential buildings. It is a the center of town and very popular with tourists.
- Hualin Temple (华林寺) was built in 964. Part of the temple is the oldest surviving wooden building in southern China.
- Dizang Temple was founded in 527. It is known as the Temple of Sacrificing Guardian of the Earth.
- Xichan Temple (西禅寺) dates from 867.
- Jinshan Temple (金山寺) was originally built in 1162, later destroyed and rebuilt in 1934.
- Wu Ta (乌塔) is also known as the 'Black Pagoda'. It was originally built in 799 and rebuilt in 936.
- Bai Ta (白塔), or the 'White Pagoda' dates from 905. It collapsed in 1534 and was rebuilt 14 years later. It sits on top of Mount Yu.
- Yongquan Temple (涌泉寺) was built in 915 and it sits at the top of Mount Gu.
- Mount Gu (鼓山) is the tallest mountain in the area. It is very popular with hiking.
- Mount Qi (旗山) is in Nanyu.
- Lin Zexu Memorial Hall (林则徐纪念馆) is located on Aomen Road.
- Luoxing Tower (罗星塔) is in the district of Mawei. It dates from the Song dynasty.
- Tanshishan cultural relics (昙石山文化遗址) are in Ganzhe.
- Saint Dominic's Cathedral (福州圣多明我主教座堂).
- St. John's Church.
- West Lake (福州西湖) is an artificial landscape-style lake built in 282.
The Fujian Museum was founded in 1933 and it well worth a visit.
There are many parks in Fuzhou, including Wulongjiang Shidi Park (乌龙江湿地公园), Beach Park (沙滩公园), Chating Park (茶亭公园), Zuohai Park (左海公园), Minjiang Park (闽江公园), Pingshan Park (屏山公园), Mount Jinniu Park (金牛山公园), Mount Jinji Park (金鸡山公园), Fuzhou National Forest Park (福州国家森林公园), Sandiejing Forest Park (三叠井森林公园) and Fuzhou Hot Spring Park (福州温泉公园). The current Fuzhou Zoo (福州动物园) was opened in 2008.
Accommodation and restaurants are available in town. Fuzhou is between the estuary of the Min River and the city of Ningde, some 1510 km southeast of Beijing.
