Gayā is one of India's main tourist attractions for its historical importance in Jain, Hindu and Buddhist religions. it is the place where, according to religious believes, Rama, Sita and Lakshmana came to offer piṇḍadāna for their father Dasharatha. Its a site of pilgrimage for Hindus who come there to perform the piṇḍadāna ritual. On 3 sides, Gayā is surrounded by the rocky hills of Mangla-Gauri, Shringa-Sthan, Ram-Shila, and Brahmayon. On the east, the town is bordered by the Phalgu River.
For Buddhists, nearby Bodh Gayā is one of the four main religious sites of pilgrimage. At Bodh Gayā you can see the Mahabodhi Temple complex. It is included in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites.
