Guadalajara
Guadalajara is a beautiful city in
Castilla-La Mancha and there are many interesting sites in town.
- The Mudejar style Iglesia de Santa Maria la Mayor (church of Saint Mary) stands close to the Capilla de Luis de Lucena, which features fresco paintings on its walls and ceiling.
- The Iglesia de la Piedad.
- The Iglesia de los Remedios serves as the auditorium of the University of Alcalá.
- The Iglesia de San Ginés (church of Saint Ginés).
- The 10th-century bridge over the Henares River was built on Roman foundations.
- The Moorish town-walls.
- The 15th-century Palacio de Duque del Infantado.
There are numerous interesting villages around Guadalajara.
- The nearby village of Usanos features the 13th-century Romanesque Iglesia de Asunción. It is a good example of religious and Romanesque architecture in Guadalajara.
- In Iriépal is the Iglesia de la Concepción with its Mudéjar tower. It was constructed in the 16th century. The town also features the 1910 Iriépal laundry.
- The 17th-century Renaissance Iglesia de la Immaculada can be found in the village of Taracena.
- Villaflores is a farming village that was founded in 1887.
There are interesting Castilian mansions in all of those villages.
The city of Guadalajara is 55 km northeast of Madrid. Accommodation and restaurants are available in town.
