Guadalupe Mountains National Park

Guadalupe Mountains National Park covers 34,998 hectares (86,416 acres) of wilderness in western Texas. The park lies in the Guadalupe Mountains and contains parts of the world's largest and most significant Permian limestone fossil reef.

In the park you can find McKittrich Canyon, as well as Guadalupe Peak, which is 2,667 m (8,751 feet) high, making it the highest point in Texas. The Guadalupe Peak trail ascends to its summit and offers great views of El Capitan, which rises 2,462 m (8,078 feet) and used to serve as a landmark for westward-travelling pioneers.

Another interesting trail is the McKittrick Canyon trail. Another feature of Guadalupe Mountains National Park are the Gypsum sand dunes. They are in the west of the park, not far from Dell City.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park was authorized in 1966 and established in 1972.
