Guadirikiri Caves

Guadirikiri Caves

The Guadirikiri Caves, or Quadiriki Caves, lie in the outer reaches of the Arikok National Park. The caves are damp, dark and there are many bats. They contain Amerindian petroglyphs, as well as Stalactites and stalagmites.

According to legend the headstrong daughter of an Indian chief defied her father and went to the caves with her lover. They are said to have been trapped within the cave and left to perish. Of course the power of their love brought down the roof of the cave and they flew to heaven. As a result one of the caves is known as the 'Tunnel of Love'.

The Guadirikiri Caves are 16 km east of Oranjestad.
