Guilin (桂林市)
The riverside city of Guilin, or Kweilin, is one of China's greener, more scenic destinations. The coty's name means 'forest of sweet osmanthus', owing to the large number of fragrant sweet osmanthus trees in the area. Guilin is also knwon for its beautiful scenery of karst topography.
There are numerous interesting sites in Guilin, including:
- Camel Mountain (骆驼山).
- Crescent Hill (月牙山).
- Daxu Ancient Town (大圩古市镇).
- Duxiu, Solitary Beauty Peak (独秀峰).
- Elephant Trunk Hill.
- Erlang Gorge (二郎山峡谷).
- Fubo Hill (伏波山).
- Huangbu (Yellow Cloth) Beach (黄埔滩).
- Jingjiang Princes City, a royal complex dating from the Ming dynasty that lies near the center of modern Guilin.
- Li River.
- Liusanjie Landscape Garden (刘三姐景观园).
- Longsheng Rice Terrace.
- Moon Hill.
- Nanxi Hill (南溪山).
- Piled Festoon Hill (堆花彩山).
- Reed Flute Cave, on the city's northwestern outskirts, is the most scenic sight in Guilin. The cave boasts beautiful stalagmites and stalactites.
- Seven-star Cave and Seven Star Park[26] (七星公园).
- Silver Cave.
- Sun and Moon Pagodas (日月双塔).
- Yangshuo.
- Yao Hill (尧山).
- Xingping Ancient Town (兴坪古镇).
There are numerous caves in the area, as well as peaks that offer stunning views.
Guilin is on the western bank of the Li River, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Southwestern China, some 1715 km southwest of Beijing. The town of Yangshuo, 50 km to the south is also worth a visit.
