Hardap Dam
The Hardap Dam was built in 1963 in the Fish River and it is Namibia's second-largest dam. It is the main water source for the city of Mariëntal, 22 km (14 mi) to the southeast.
The dam was also meant to prevent the flooding of Mariëntal, such as happened in 1923 and 1934, but when the sluices are opened due to heavy rains, the city is still prone to flooding.
