Hebei Province


The province of Hebei is traversed by a large section of the Great Wall of ChinaGreat Wall of China. Other interesting sights in the province include the Zhaozhou Bridge in the southeast, which was built in the 7th century and the Woods of Cangyanshan, which contain numerous temples.

In ChengdeChengde is the Imperial Summer Villa amongst many other temples, while at Shanhaiguan the Great Wall meets the sea. More temples and monasteries can be seen at Zhengding. In Beidaihe you can see numerous European-style Victorian buildings. During colonial times this town was a busy beach resort.

The capital of Hebei is ShijiazhuangShijiazhuang. The two areas that include BeijingBeijing and its port zone of Tianjin are also in the Hebei province.

The current province of Hebei was created in 1928. There are several UNESCO world heritage sites in Hebei, including the Great Wall of ChinaGreat Wall of China, Chengde Mountain Resort, the Grand Canal, the Eastern Qing tombs and the Western Qing tombs.
