Kakamega Forest National Reserve

The Kakamega Forest National Reserve covers an area of virgin tropical rainforest in Western Kenya and is surrounded by agricultural land. The Kakamega Forest was opnce part of the ancient Guineo-Congolian rainforest that used to span the entire African continent. It is Kenya's only remaining rainforest.

It is easily reached and there are numerous animal species, including many birds. Some of the mammals you will see there include red-tailed monkey, black & white colobus monkey, and blue monkey.

There are walking-trails through the park and accommodation is available.

The Kakamega Forest National Reserve is 290 km northwest of Nairobi, not far from the border with Uganda. The nearest town is Kakamega, but most people prefer to stay in Kisumu, 10 km south of the reserve.
