Kakum National Park is located in the coastal environs of southern Ghana. It has been a protected area since 1931 and it is mostly covered with dense tropical forest. It is a small park, covering only 357 km² (139 sq miles). There is a 330 m (1,080 ft) long canopy walkway that is suspended 30 meters above the ground and provides treetop views of the forest.
The park is home to numerous species of animals, including 266 bird species, as well as several endangered species of mammals. They include Diana monkey, giant bongo antelope, yellow-backed duiker and African elephant. There are also over 600 diiferent species of butterfly.
Kaskum National Park is 30 km (22 mi) north of Cape Coast, which is a good place to stay if you want to visit the park. It is 130 km west of Accra. The best time to visit it is during the dry period from May to October.
