Kalinago Territory
The Kalinago Territory was formerly known as the Carib Territory. It was established in 1903 and it is located in the east of Dominica. The territory is home to most of the island's Carib Indians.
In the 17th century there were only several hundred of them left, after exposure to diseases from European colonizers decimated the Indian population. The remaining Indians were relocated to the Carib Territory (now called the Kalinago Territory) in the mid 18th century. After that their numbers started rising, but their culture was largely affected by Roman Catholicism and the English and French Creole languages.
The territory covers 1497 ha (3700 acres) of remote and mountainous areas along Dominica's Atlantic coast. Banana and breadfruit trees dominate the rural area. Most dwellings in the Kalinago Territory consist of traditional Carib-style wooden houses on stilts, but there are also numerous shanties.

- The main town in the region is Salybia.
- Most people come to the Kalinago Territory to visit the lava outcrop of l'Escalier Tête Chien at Sineka. Its name derives from the fact that the outcrop looks a bit like a stairway that appears to climb out of the ocean. It is important in countless Carib legends.
In 2017, Hurricane Maria caused severe damage to the territory.
Accommodation is available in several towns throughout the region. Handmade Carib crafts, including the popular larouma reed baskets, are sold in all the villages in the region.
The Kalinago Territory is located 20 km northeast of Roseau.
