Katoomba

Katoomba is a major tourist center in the Blue Mountains. From Echo Point in Katoomba you have an excellent view over the legendary rock formation of the Three Sisters. According to legend the rocks got their name from three women, who were changed into stone by a sorcerer, to protect them from the advances of three sleazy men. Unfortunately for the sisters, the sorcerer died before he could change them back into humans. Not far from Echo Point is the Giant Stairway, which is the starting point for several nature walks through the Jamison Valley. The valley boasts numerous waterfalls. Mount Solitary and the rock formation of the 'Ruined Castle' are also there.

In Katoomba itself is the tourist complex of Scenic World. At Scenic World is the steepest funicular railway in the world, as well as the Scenic Skyway cable car, which offers beautiful views of the Katoomba Falls.

There are numerous Art Nouveau and Art Deco guesthouses in Katoomba. The town is 90 km west of Sydney and 215 km northeast of Canberra.

There are countless hotels and guest-houses in Katoomba. In town are also many café's and restaurants.
