Kerinci-Seblat sprawls across four of Sumatra's provinces and it the island's largest national park, covering an area of aroubd 14,000 km². It is dominated by volcanic cones, including Mount Kerinci, the highest peak in western Indonesia. Animals that roam the park include bears, elephants, orangutan, rhinos and tigers, as well as a wide variety of birds, especially around Lake Kerinci. Birds that can be seen there include banded-broadbills, hornbills and drongos, a bird, whose tail gives the illusion that the animal is constantly being chased by two black butterflies.
The Kerinci-Seblat National Park is 510 km southeast of Medan and 500 km northeast of Jakarta.
