Kiholo Bay is in the ahupua'a of Pu'u Wa'awa'a, in the north of Hawai'i Island. It is a pristine oasis in a barren landscape of hardened lava, which once flowed from Mount Hualalai and Mauna Loa in 1801 and 1859 respectively.
Not far north of Kiholo Bay is a beautiful, protected inlet called Wainanali'i Pond, which is fronted by black sand and palm trees. You might see giant sea turtles in the inlet, which is also known as the Blue Lagoon.
Queen's Bath was a large tidal pool located in Kalapana. It was destroyed in a volcanic eruption of Kīlauea in 1987.
Kiholo Bay can be reached by a 3 km (2 miles) long trail that runs from the highway to the bay and passes through arid lava fields.
Kiholo Bay is 250 km southeast of Honolulu.
