Kindia

Kindia

Kindia was founded in 1904. It is a weaving center, 137 km (85 mi) northeast of Conakry. The cloth market is one of the largest in the country and nearby you will find the indigo dyeing center. Behind the old railway station are several workshops that can be visited.

Most people come to Kindia however to visit the Bridal Falls (locally known as La Voile de la Mariée, or Chûtes de la Mariée). The waterfall is some 15 km (9 miles) east of town. The best time to visit the fall is during the rainy season when more water flows down. You can rent bungalows near the waterfall.

Mount Gangan is not far from Kindia and can be climbed.

There is a good variety of accommodation in Kindia. There are many restaurants and food stalls. Buses and minibuses run between Kindia and the capital.
