Kiruna

Kiruna

Kiruna is an ugly, industrial place in northern Sweden. Apart from viewing northern lights and winter activities such as cross-country skiing, dog sledding and snowmobiling, there is little of interest to travellers. It was originally founded as a town to serve the Kiruna Mine and nowadays there are still numerous mines in the surrounding area. Most of the city's population is employed by one of them. There are several hotels and restaurants in Kiruna. In nearby Jukkasjärvi is an ice-hotel. The city has good rail and road connections with the rest of Sweden, as well as Norway. Kiruna is 960 km north of Stockholm.
