Ko Si Chang is a small island 10 km off the coast from Si Racha. The only town on Ko Si Chang is called Ban Tha Phanu Rangsi, with a population that mainly consists of fishing-people, mariners, customs officials and workers in aquaculture projects. The rest of the island is very quiet and almost deserted. On the island you will find a meditation center with hermits caves, nice beaches that are excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving, numerous caves and a Chinese temple set spectacularly on a cliff. The island is also home to the ruins of the royal palace of King Chulalongkorn. It was abandoned in 1893 after French troops occupied Ko Si Chang.
There are numerous hostels and bungalows on Ko Si Chang, but you are also allowed to set up your tent anywhere you want on the island. You can get to Si Racha by bus from Bangkok or Pattaya. From Si Racha there are hourly boats to Ko Si Chang. The island is 80 km southeast of Bangkok.
