Koforidua is popularly known as K-dua, while it's also sometimes referred to as Koftown, Kofcity, or New Juaben. It was established in 1875 and consists of a mix of colonial and modern architecture. Koforidua is a good place to start exploring the area around the Begora Falls, the Boti Falls and the Akaa Falls. The Begora Falls are one hour's walking from Begora village. At the Boti Falls you can see many species of butterflies. The falls carry the most water during the rainy seasons
Other interesting places are the sacred mountain of Obuo Tabri and Umbrella Rock.
Akosombo Dam is not far from town. It holds Lake Volta, which is the world's largest man-made lake.
Koforidua has several markets including Central Market, Agatha Market (Farmer's Market), Effiduase Market, Adweso Market and the Zongo Market, amongst others. Major market days are Mondays and Thursdays.
There are various hotels and restaurants in Koforidua. The city has excellent road connections with Kumasi.
