The source of the Komati River is in northern Eswatini, not far from the town of Piggs Peak. In the same area there are several sites where San paintings can be found. The Komati River flows westwards through some magnificent gorges in the Malolotja Nature Reserve. Along the shores of the river are several superb camp sites, but you have to ask permission from the park rangers to be able to camp there.
The Komati River is also known as the Inkomati River and Rio Incomati in Mozambique. After it exits Eswatini, it flows west into Mpumalanga in South Africa and then enters Mozambique south of the town of Komatipoort. It finally ends up in the Indian Ocean some 25 km northeast from Maputo.
