Kyk-Over-Al

Kyk-Over-Al

Kyk-Over-Al is a ruined Dutch fortress on the place where the Mazuruni and Cuyuni Rivers congregate. The fortress was originally built in 1616 by the Dutch West Indian Company. At the fortress you can take a ferry to Marshall Falls, where you can swim and observe wildlife.

The name Kyk-Over-Al means 'Look Over All', which refers to the commanding position the fortress used to have, offering views over the river and the surrounding area. There is not much more left of the fort than an entry gate.

Kyk-Over-Al is 75 km southwest of Georgetown, not far from the town of Bartica.
