La Foa

La Foa is a small town on the southwestern coast of Terre Grande. The area around the town consists of lush cane fields, as well as blackwood and araucaria pines. La Foa was originally founded as a penal settlement.

Points of interest

Fort Teremba was the headquarters for the local colonial military. Kanaks besieged it in 1878 during the great insurrection. Every year in November, sound and light shows are staged there.
The impressive Paserelle de Marguerite bridge was designed by two students of Gustave Eiffel. The historic bridge has been superseded by a wider bridge, but it's still quite a construction.
l'Église St. Vincent de Paul (St. Vincent of Paul Church) sits off the main road.
Not far from La Foa is the town of Farino, which is also worth a visit.

There are several hotels and restaurants in La Foa. The town is 95 km northwest of Nouméa and buses ply the route on weekdays.
