Larung Gar (洛若乡)

Larung Gar lies in the Larung Valley in Tibet. The community mainly consists of monks and is centered on the Serta Larung Five Science Buddhist Academy, which was founded in 1980. Most buildings were constructed using mud bricks and wood and are almost stacked on top of each other covering the hillsides around the academy.

The Chinese government has been trying to demolish the informal settlement several times, but the monks keep rebuilding their dwellings.

There are several restaurants near the main square adjacent to the Gompa.
